Stepping in Front of the Camera
There’s something a little strange about being the person who is always behind the camera and then suddenly stepping in front of it yourself.
After a season of growth, creativity, and refining the direction of Courtney Mitchell Photography, I knew it was finally time to update my own branding portraits. I wanted images that felt like the studio, the art I create, and the season of business I’m stepping into.
So I called someone I deeply trust, my friend and mentor, Anne Marie of Lasting Images.
And honestly? These images feel like home.
More Than Just New Headshots
As photographers and creatives, our branding images become part of the story people connect with long before they ever meet us in person. They communicate personality, style, artistry, and experience in an instant.
For me, this wasn’t about simply getting updated headshots. It was about creating imagery that reflected where Courtney Mitchell Photography is today.
Timeless.
Artistic.
Elevated.
Intentional.
The rich colors, historic textures, creative details, and balance between elegance and authenticity all reflect the experience I want my clients to have when they walk into my downtown Sherman studio.
Growing as an Artist
This past year has stretched me creatively in the best possible way. Between refining the studio experience, continuing my education, attending Texas School, and learning from artists I deeply admire, I feel more inspired than ever about the direction of my work.
I’ve found myself leaning even further into portraiture that feels meaningful, artistic, and lasting. Portraits that feel both classic and creative at the same time.
That evolution is subtle in some ways and deeply personal in others, but I can feel it shaping not only my work, but the entire experience I create for my clients.
Experiencing the Other Side of the Camera
I also think it’s important for photographers to occasionally step in front of the camera themselves.
It reminds us how vulnerable it can feel to be photographed. How important trust and guidance are during a session. How meaningful it is to feel truly seen.
Experiencing that firsthand only deepened my commitment to creating portrait experiences that feel comfortable, collaborative, and personal for every client who walks through my doors.
A New Season for Courtney Mitchell Photography
These portraits feel like the beginning of a new chapter creatively, one that still honors everything Courtney Mitchell Photography has always stood for while continuing to grow artistically.
Simple.
Beauty.
Forever.
And I’m incredibly grateful to Anne Marie and Lasting Images for capturing this season so beautifully.
