A Fresh Chapter for Your Portrait Experience
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to spend two full days learning, creating, and getting my hands a little messy.
Earlier this year, I was introduced to mixed media portrait artwork during a class with portrait artist Greg Daniel at Texas School. I loved the idea of taking a finished portrait beyond the photograph itself, so when I had the opportunity to spend two days diving deeper into the process with Greg, I was all in.
More Than a Photograph
These pieces begin with a portrait, but from there, they become something completely different.
Through layers of texture, paint, and hand-applied details, each portrait is transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece of mixed media artwork. Because so much of the process is done by hand, no two pieces will ever be exactly alike.
And that may be what I love most about them.
For years, I’ve believed that portraits deserve to live somewhere beyond a screen. I want the photographs I create for my clients to become finished artwork that can be enjoyed every day and, eventually, passed down.
Mixed media gives me an entirely new way to do that.

And now for the fun part. You can come see these pieces in person.
Courtney Mitchell Photography will be one of the official stops for Downtown Sherman’s Stroll on the Square on Saturday, October 3, and apparently we’re headed to Spain!
This year’s Stroll takes you “around the world” through Downtown Sherman, with stops representing Spain, Italy, Australia, the USA, France, and Romania. My studio will be one of the Spain stops, so while you’re here sampling wine and making your way through your event passport, you’ll also get a first look at something brand new.
I’ll have samples of my new mixed media portrait artwork on display throughout the studio.
And these really are pieces you need to see in person. The layers, texture, dimension, and hand-finished details simply don’t translate the same way in a photograph.

Tickets are $40 and include a wine glass, event passport, wine samples, and food samples.
Come have a glass of wine, see what I’ve been creating, and take a little trip to Spain without ever leaving Downtown Sherman.
