When Does Your Business Need More Than a Headshot?

By: Courtney Mitchell Photography

A great headshot can do a lot.

It can give you a polished first impression, help put a face to your name, and make sure the person someone meets online actually looks like the person who walks through the door.

But sometimes, your business needs more than one great photograph.

Depending on how you market yourself, how your team is structured, and where your images are being used, you may need a simple professional headshot, a larger collection of personal branding images, or a consistent set of portraits for your entire team.

So how do you know which one is right for you?

When You Need a Professional Headshot

For many professionals, a current headshot is exactly what they need.

Think LinkedIn profiles, company websites, email signatures, speaking engagements, professional directories, business cards, and other places where you simply need to look polished, approachable, and like yourself.

A professional headshot session is focused and efficient. We create images with your specific needs in mind, and you select the portraits you want to use.

If your goal is simply, I need a really good picture of myself, this is probably where you belong.

When You Need Personal Branding Photography

Personal branding photography goes beyond the traditional headshot.

This is a better fit when you are an important part of the brand you're marketing.

Business owners, real estate professionals, creatives, consultants, medical professionals, speakers, and other client-facing professionals often need a variety of images instead of one photograph.

You may need portraits for your website, social media, marketing campaigns, publications, presentations, advertising, or content you haven't even planned yet.

That's where having a library of cohesive images becomes valuable.

We can create traditional portraits along with more environmental, lifestyle, detail, and personality driven images that give you options while still keeping your visual brand consistent.

When Your Entire Team Needs to Look Consistent

This is where corporate team photography becomes its own category.

Maybe your company has grown. You've added employees. You have multiple offices. Your website has headshots photographed by five different photographers over the course of several years.

Individually, those photographs may be perfectly fine.

Together? Not so much.

Corporate photography allows us to create a consistent visual standard across your organization.

That might mean photographing your entire staff in one day, setting up at your office during a company meeting, photographing smaller groups by location, or creating a system that makes it easy to photograph new hires as your team grows.

The goal isn't to make everyone look exactly the same.

The goal is to make the brand look consistent.

Lighting, background, cropping, posing, image style, and retouching can all be planned so that individual portraits work together across your website, directories, proposals, marketing materials, and internal communications.

What If You Have More Than One Need?

That's pretty common.

A company may need consistent headshots for its entire staff while also needing additional branding images of its leadership team.

A business owner may need a traditional headshot for professional use plus a collection of more relaxed images for marketing and social media.

That's why I don't believe professional photography should begin with choosing a package just because its name sounds right.

It should begin with what the photographs need to do for you.

Once we know where they'll be used, how many people need to be photographed, how often your team changes, and what your brand should communicate, it's much easier to determine the right approach.

Photography Built Around Your Business

I work with individual professionals, small businesses, medical practices, corporate teams, and organizations throughout Sherman, Denison, and the Texoma area to create professional photography that fits the way they actually do business.

Sessions can take place in my downtown Sherman studio or on location, and corporate photography can be customized around the size, schedule, and needs of your team.

Whether you need one great headshot or a consistent collection of portraits for an entire organization, the goal is the same:

Create professional images that feel like you and work for the way you're using them.
